by Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, researchers found that a
powerful antioxidant known as EGCG, found in green tea, binds to
proteins found in tumor cells, dramatically slowing their growth. This
same antioxidant, which also acts as a pain reliever and inflammation
reducer, can also be used for the treatment of sunburn.
Tea drinkers have also
been found to be less likely to develop high blood pressure.
A Taiwanese study also
concluded that the risk of hypertension was decreased by regular green
tea consumption, which is also recommended by the Journal of Nutrition.
Reports of consuming between 30 and 32 ounces of tea (black or
green) daily may reduce LDL cholesterol levels by more than 10 % and
decrease DNA damage caused by smoking.
