Volume 1, Issue 1:  Spring 2007

Sugar’s will be celebrating its first anniversary on March 24th! Thank you for making our year so special!

A Note from SUGAR’S TEA ROOM AND GIFT SHOPPE

An Elixir of Life

Over the past decade, tea popularity has grown immensely throughout the United States.  Besides being a classic comfort and social staple, tea has been integrated vastly into our culture. However, recent studies have yielded results that show that tea does more than just soothe the soul.  In fact, it has been found to soothe the body in the prevention and treatment of certain illnesses.  Rooibos, green, and black teas offer up antioxidants that attack free radicals, which are toxic compounds that damage healthy cells, contributing to immune system decline.

In a study conducted by Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, researchers found that a powerful antioxidant known as EGCG, found in green tea, binds to proteins found in tumor cells, dramatically slowing their growth. This same antioxidant, which also acts as a pain reliever and inflammation reducer, can also be used for the treatment of sunburn.

Tea drinkers have also been found to be less likely to develop high blood pressure.

A Taiwanese study also concluded that the risk of hypertension was decreased by regular green tea consumption, which is also recommended by the Journal of Nutrition.  Reports of consuming between 30 and 32 ounces of tea (black or green) daily may reduce LDL cholesterol levels by more than 10 % and decrease DNA damage caused by smoking.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal.  Renew your mind and body with the rejuvenating selections of tea offered at Sugar’s Tea Room.

A Tea-riffic Thought:
“Smile your little smile—take some tea with me awhile, Brush away that black cloud from your shoulder. Twitch your whiskers, Feel that you’re really real. Another tea time - another day older.”
